Marvel Studios and Disney Pictures have premiered the first poster for “The Marvels,” the superhero team-up film that serves as a sequel to “Captain Marvel” whilst also incorporating characters from “WandaVision” and “Ms. Marvel”.
Along with the one-sheet premiere though comes the bad news – the film has been delayed by four months. Rather than hitting cinemas on July 28th as originally planned, the project will instead open in cinemas on November 10th. This explains the lack of the expected Super Bowl spot for the film.
The shift has no impact on the rest of Marvel’s release slate as the next Marvel film is “Captain America: New World Order” which isn’t until May 2024. The move means “The Marvels” will be the sole Marvel Studios film release in a twelve month span between the third ‘Guardians’ this May and a fourth ‘Cap’ next May.
In the film, the superpowered Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), the hard light-projecting Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), and the energy-absorbing Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) begin swapping places with each other every time they use their powers and must team-up to figure out why.
Samuel L. Jackson reprises his role of Nick Fury alongside Saagar Shaikh, Zenobia Shroff, and Mohan Kapur who are back in their “Ms. Marvel” roles as the other Khan family members. Also onboard are Zawe Ashton as a villain and Park Seo-joon in an undisclosed role. Goose, the Flerken who resembles a cat, returns from “Captain Marvel”.
Nia DaCosta (“Candyman,” “Little Woods”) helms the film from a script she co-wrote with Megan McDonnell, Elissa Karasik, and Zeb Wells. The film was shot around the UK along with location filming in Los Angeles and Tropea, Italy.
Disney has also moved up its “Haunted Mansion” film a few weeks to take over that July release slot.
