Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions are reportedly set to make a film adaptation of Fumito Ueda’s acclaimed PS4 action-adventure game “The Last Guardian”.

Insider DanielRPK broke the news, but there are no additional details about the project – suggesting it is still in the early stages of development.

The game is set in a strange and mystical land, a young boy discovers a mysterious giant dog-bird creature named Trico with which he forms a deep, unbreakable bond. The unlikely pair must rely on each other to journey through towering, treacherous ruins filled with unknown dangers.

Fumito Ueda is a famed game designer known for celebrated works like “Ico” and “Shadow of the Colossus”. “The Last Guardian” wasn’t quite as well reviewed as those, but still scored high with an 82/100 on Metacritic.

A film adaptation would join the multiple PlayStation Productions titles in the works, the most recent being the currently airing second season of “Twisted Metal,” and the “Until Dawn” film earlier this year.

Also on the way from them is a third season of HBO’s “The Last of Us” which is expected to shoot early next year, a TV series version of “God of War”, and film adaptations of “Horizon: Zero Dawn,” “Ghost of Tsushima,” “Days Gone,” “Helldivers” and “Gravity Rush” along with an “Uncharted” sequel.
