“The Housemaid” Is Getting A Sequel

Lionsgate

The recent success of the Sydney Sweeney-led thriller “The Housemaid” has resulted in Lionsgate ordering a sequel.

Both Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried will reportedly executive produce “The Housemaid’s Secret” which will be based on the second novel in Freida McFadden’s trilogy.

Sweeney had not yet signed a deal to star, but the studio is reportedly looking into her reprising her role as Millie – despite the character not appearing in the second book. Seyfried could potentially appear on screen too.

Paul Feig will return as director for the new installment, as will screenwriter Rebecca Sonnenshine and producers Todd Lieberman, Feig, Laura Fischer, Carly Elter and Alex Young.

As for Amanda Seyfried, a co-star in The Housemaid, she too has an executive producer credit on the sequel. And her character doesn’t appear in McFadden’s second book, but the possibility of Seyfried appearing in the sequel is still a possibility, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The news follows on from “The Housemaid” having pulled in $133.2 million worldwide so far, with multiple territories still to come. Box-office experts project the film could reach $200 million by the end of its run, very good for a $35 million budget film.
