Dan Stevens will reunite with his “The Guest” director Adam Wingard as the actor takes on the lead role in the next installment of Legendary’s Monsterverse franchise.

A direct follow-up to last year’s “Godzilla vs. Kong” which Wingard directed, Stevens’ casting marks the first major hire for the new film which is slated to begin shooting this Summer in Australia.

Overcoming soft reviews, “Godzilla vs. Kong” grossed $468 million globally which was highly impressive considering it bowed day-and-date on HBO Max and hit during the middle of the pandemic.

The casting comes as Wingard this week also teased a potential sequel to the cult 2014 hit “The Guest” which still has some of the best reviews of his and Stevens’ careers and which Wingard himself says was his favourite movie that he’s made to date.

Following a surprise drop of “The Guest II” soundtrack a while back, Wingard tells Empire that the music-based project which he did for fun might actually result in a follow-up: “It has really pushed me and Simon [Barrett, writer] into a creative headspace. We’re talking about developing a potential sequel as a real project.”

He added that Stevens “would love to do it,” and says it may not be a film sequel either but rather “a limited series, something we could really sink our teeth into.”
