ABC’s “The Goldbergs” is coming to an end with Deadline reporting that the long-running family comedy’s current tenth season will be its last. As a result the May season finale will serve as a series finale.
The half-hour series from creator Adam F. Goldberg and Sony Pictures TV is the longest-running live-action network comedy series currently on the air. Ratings-wise the series has remained a reliable performer for ABC in its Wednesday comedy block.
Its end comes as little surprise as a year ago ABC signed new deals with the cast for a tenth season to give it a proper ending. It marks the second ABC series slated to end this season along with drama “A Million Little Things”.
In 2021, the series lost two core cast members – George Segal who died from surgery complications, and Jeff Garlin who exited following multiple misconduct allegations.
Wendi McLendon-Covey, Sean Giambrone, Troy Gentile, Hayley Orrantia and Sam Lerner remain on the series which follows the challenges, ups, downs, twists and turns in the life of the chaotic but loving titular family during the Reagan era.
Alex Barnow and Chris Bishop have been serving showrunners since succeeding creator Goldberg in the role ahead of the show’s seventh season. Happy Madison and Doug Robinson Productions and Sony Pictures Television produce the series.
