David Gordon Green’s “The Exorcist” revival has scored an official name – “The Exorcist: Believer”. The project marks the first in a planned new trilogy of films from Blumhouse and Morgan Creek for Universal Pictures and Peacock.
The new trilogy is a direct sequel to the original film, and the title was announced today at CinemaCon, where the first trailer was also shown off this evening.
In the new film, two girls go missing and come back possessed, one is seen in a white dress covered in blood walking down the aisle of a church. Leslie Odom Jr. stars as one of the parents who has never seen anything like this and so sets out to find someone who has – Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn).
Ann Dowd, Lidya Jewett, and Jennifer Nettles also star in the film, which Green co-writes with Scott Teems, Danny McBride, and Petter Sattler.
Green, who helmed 2018’s “Halloween” revival and its sequels, is directing the first film with Universal acquiring the rights for this trilogy in a massive deal reported to be worth over $400 million.
Jason Blum, David Robinson, and James Robinson produce, whilst Green, McBride, Couper Samuelson, and Stephanie Allain executive produce.
“The Exorcist: Believer” opens on October 13th.
