Roadshow Films has delayed the Australian local release of “Force of Nature: The Dry 2,” the sequel to 2021’s well-regarded Australian rural noir thriller “The Dry”.
Eric Bana reprises his role as Australian federal agent Aaron Falk in this adaptation of Jane Harper’s second novel focusing on the character. Robert Connolly is also back as director and writer.
In a press release issued earlier today, it was revealed that the producers and distributor have opted to ditch the originally planned August 24th release with a new date unspecified.
The reason is being put down to the actor’s strike as, until the actors are available to support the launch, a new date will not be set. Bana says in an official statement:
“It is with some regret, but a large amount of conviction, that we have decided to postpone the release of Force of Nature: The Dry 2. I’m incredibly proud of this much anticipated Australian film and want to be able to do it justice by promoting it thoroughly.
Due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, of which I am a long-standing member, it is not possible to do that at this time. Just as we did with The Dry, our plan is to be face-to-face with the cinema-going public through event screenings, Q&As, and press appearances at the time of release.
I stand in support of the changes that SAG-AFTRA are fighting for on behalf of all working Actors. I apologise for any inconvenience it causes anyone who has pre-purchased tickets to our already sold-out Q&A sessions. Thanks for your understanding. See you at a cinema soon.”
This marks one of the first film release date delays caused by the strikes, with more expected to follow in the coming weeks and potential months, depending upon how long the industrial action continues.
In the new film, five female colleagues take part in a corporate hiking retreat in Victorian mountain ranges – only four come out on the other side. Each of the missing woman’s companions tells a slightly different story about what happened.
Falk and Agent Carmen Cooper (Jacqueline McKenzie) head deep into the isolated forest and mountains to investigate and hopefully find the missing hiker – Alice Russell (Anna Torv) – a corporate whistleblower who was their informant.
Deborah-Lee Furness, Richard Roxburgh, Robin McLeavy, Sisi Stringer, Lucy Ansell, Jeremy Lindsay-Taylor, Tony Briggs and Kenneth Radley co-star in the film.
