“The Drew Barrymore Show” Sets Its Return

“The Drew Barrymore Show” is officially returning after a well-publicised failed attempt to do so last month – an attempt which has reportedly now cost the show a trio of WGA writers who have chosen not to return according to THR.

Barrymore found herself under the spotlight last month when she announced that her daytime talk show would return for its fourth season but without its striking writers. Though controversial, Barrymore’s initial decision also did not violate the rules of the simultaneously striking actor’s union SAG-AFTRA.

Not helping however was a social media video post seemingly defending her stance about returning. A week later, after much backlash and some guest cancellations, she reversed course and opted to pause the show’s return until the WGA strike was over.

Now that it is, the show is set to come back on October 16th. However, writers Chelsea White, Cristina Kinon and Liz Koe reportedly have declined an offer to return with it.

All three were vocal in their protest about the show’s initial plan to return to production in mid-September. The trio have been with the series since season one. The production is reportedly now interviewing new writers and will be in compliance with the guild.

The comments come as other series have set returns with “The Kelly Clarkson Show” coming back with its fifth season on October 16th. “Saturday Night Live” will return on October 14th with Pete Davidson hosting the season premiere whilst Bad Bunny will host the following week.
