The “Dodgeball” Sequel Sets A Writer

20th Century Studios

Its been long speculated about, those involved have teased a desire to do it, and now it appears to be finally happening – a sequel to 2004’s hit comedy “Dodgeball” is in early development at 20th Century Studios.

Deadline reports that Vince Vaughn will return to star in the sports comedy which is being scripted by Jordan VanDina (“Animaniacs,” “48 Hours in Vegas,” “The Binge”) based on an idea from Vaughn. It’s not yet clear if the original film’s writer/director Rawson Marshall Thurber will be involved.

It’s also not clear which members from the stacked ensemble cast might return, including Ben Stiller, Christine Taylor, Justin Long, Stephen Root, Alan Tudyk, Joel David Moore, Chris Williams, Missi Pyle, Gary Cole and Jason Bateman.

The first film grossed over $168 million worldwide from a $20 million budget. Vaughn has said in various interviews he remains “really proud of Dodgeball” over the years.

Late last year he revealed he had the story idea for a sequel and was waiting to see if the studio would move forward on it. The hiring of a writer now suggests they did.

Vaughn most recently signed on to star alongside Ryan Reynolds, Jason Momoa and Aubrey Plaza in the R-rated road trip adventure “Animal Friends” and recently wrapped work on the Apple TV+ series “Bad Monkey” which hails from “Ted Lasso” co-creator Bill Lawrence.
