The CW has reportedly ordered Warner Brothers TV’s reboot of classic series “Kung Fu” with Olivia Liang starring.
Tzi Ma and Kheng Hua Tan play restaurateurs whose secrets threaten to destroy their lives just as they deal with the return of their estranged daughter, a young Chinese-American woman (Liang) in the midst of a quarter-life crisis.
When she returns to find her hometown overrun with crime and corruption, she uses her martial arts skills and Shaolin values to protect her community. Christina M. Kim and Martin Gero serve as showrunners while Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter executive produce.
The CW is expected to unveil its fall schedule on Thursday. “Kung Fu” will join straight-to-series pickups “Superman & Lois” and “Walker” along with the just ordered “Republic of Sarah”. Pilots for “Maverick” and “The Lost Boys” have been pushed to next season, and the fate of “The 100” prequel and “Arrow” sequel spin-offs remains unclear.
