The CW is officially moving forward with development of an “Arrow” spin-off series set in the time period of the flash forwards scenes of last season.
The new series focuses on The Canaries – a vigilante group operating in a future version of Star City in which the city was overrun by an uprising by the denizens of The Glades.
The show will star Katherine McNamara as Mia Smoak, Katie Cassidy as Laurel Lance, and Juliana Harkavy as Dinah Drake with an episode of the upcoming ten-episode final season of “Arrow” to serve as a backdoor pilot for the potential series. The CW’s DC Universe has frequently adopted this approach with “The Flash” and “Batwoman” starting out in a similar way.
Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Beth Schwartz, Marc Guggenheim, Jill Blankenship and Oscar Balderrama will all be executive producers on the project that Berlanti Productions will produce in association with Warner Bros. Television.
