“The Conjuring” Gets A TV Series Sequel

Warner Bros. Pictures

Warner Bros. Discovery’s newly rebranded streaming service Max is developing a TV series based on “The Conjuring” horror franchise.

No story details are available at the moment, and no writer is attached yet. However Max says the TV project will “continue the story established in the feature films” as opposed to rebooting or following a side character.

The main three “The Conjuring” movies center on demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) who investigate and document paranormal events. It’s not clear if either actor or their characters will be involved in the new series at present.

The franchise also includes the “Annabelle” trilogy, “The Nun” and its upcoming sequel, and “The Curse of La Llorona”. Each of the films take place across various time periods and settings. To date, the films have grossed more than $2 billion at the box office worldwide.

James Wan, who directed the first two “Conjuring” films and produced seven of the eight total movies in the franchise to date, is also in talks to serve as an executive producer alongside Peter Safran.

Warner Bros. Television, Atomic Monster and The Safran Co. are backing the series which was one of several announcements Warner Bros. Discovery made Wednesday at a press event.
