“The Boys” series showrunner Eric Kripke has offered a brief update on how the show’s spin-off, “The Boys: Mexico,” is going.
Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer (“Blue Beetle”) is writing the series, which is expected to be filmed in Mexico, but no plot details have yet been revealed.
“Y Tu Mama Tambien” co-stars Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal are producing the project and could potentially star in it as well. Kripke says is currently in development and will offer a very different approach to its parent series.
Kripke, who is currently in post-production on the fifth and final season of “The Boys”, tells Collider:
“The pilot of [The] Boys: Mexico is being developed right now. It’s very cool. I mean, who knows – obviously you never know, but I can say that the world itself meets the standard of all of our spin-offs.
It’s our world but a totally different tone, and it’s super fun. Gael and Diego are executive producers, which is amazing and [they] really engaged with it, so – short answer is we’ll see, but I think the script is good.”
The second season of the first “The Boys” spin-off “Gen V” premieres this week followed by the final season of “The Boys” next year. Another spin-off, the prequel “Vought Rising,” is currently in the works at Amazon Prime Video and seems further along than ‘Mexico’.
