NBC has renewed its long-running espionage thriller series “The Blacklist” for a tenth season.
Series star James Spader confirmed the renewal during his appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Tuesday, the news coming as the show is halfway through broadcasting its ninth season.
The new season has been something of a test for the show. Megan Boone’s character of FBI profiler Elisabeth Keen was essentially the co-lead in the series alongside Spader’s notorious criminal Raymond Reddington for its first seven seasons.
Boone was absent for much of the first half of the eighth season, returning in the back half to wrap up all her character plot threads.
The ninth season marks the first full season without her but reportedly it has not impacted ratings as the long-running series has continued to draw large numbers with 22 million viewers across linear and digital platforms. The series also grows more than 200% from its Live+Same Day average.
Diego Klattenhoff, Amir Arison, Hisham Tawfiq, Laura Sohn and Harry Lennix also star.
