Warner Bros. and DC Films have moved up the HBO Max release of Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” a day earlier than expected.
Originally slated to arrive on Tuesday April 19th, the title will now be available to stream on HBO Max beginning Monday, April 18th along with being able to purchase on digital storefronts the same day. The title is still intended to launch in some global VOD markets on the Tuesday which will crossover with Monday U.S. time.
The Monday date will now be exactly 45 days after the film launched in cinemas on Friday March 4th, 46 if you include Thursday night previews.
In addition, the film will also score a linear premiere on HBO airing on Saturday, April 23rd whilst a 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD will take place on May 24th. The film has grossed $735 million worldwide at the box-office to date and a straight-to-series order has been handed out for “The Penguin” spin-off series.
Warners previously indicated it intends to stick to a 45-day theatrical window throughout 2022 with films then becoming available on their HBO Max service. That they’re doing so to the letter for arguably their biggest film of the year suggests the same will be true of all their other titles this year.
If they stick resolutely to the 45-days schedule, then their slate would be as follows going by a calender. Be advised, HBO Max dates beyond “The Batman” have yet to be announced or confirmed at this time so these dates are not yet official or set: “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” (Cinema: 4/15, HBOMax: 5/30), “Elvis” (Cinema: 6/24, HBOMax: 8/8), “DC League of Super-Pets” (Cinema: 7/29, HBOMax: 9/12), “Salem’s Lot” (Cinema: 9/9, HBOMax: 10/24), “Don’t Worry Darling” (Cinema: 9/23, HBOMax: 11/7), “Black Adam” (Cinema: 10/21, HBOMax: 12/5), “Creed III” (Cinema: 11/23, HBOMax: 1/7/23), “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” (Cinema: 12/16, HBOMax: 1/30/23).
