“The Alchemist” Film Lives Once Again

The forever gestating feature adaptation of Paulo Coelho’s novel “The Alchemist” has come back to life following Legendary Entertainment landing the film, TV and ancillary rights to the property.

Jack Thorne (“Enola Holmes”) is attached to write the feature adaptation of a popular 1988 novel that has been in the works for over twenty years.

The book follows a young Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago who embarks on a quest to find hidden treasure in the great pyramids of Egypt. His epic quest sees him gaining wisdom along the way about how to listen and follow one’s dreams.

The book has sold more than 100 million copies in 56 languages and holds the Guinness world record for the most translated work by a living author.

Laurence Fishburne was attached to the project for sixteen years after Warners picked up the project in 2003. Then The Weinstein Company was attached for years, then PalmStar Media and Westbrook Studios who set Kevin Frakes to direct that version which fell through, and now comes the newest version.

TriStar Pictures is onboard to release the film. No word on production dates as yet.
