The Television Academy has announced the nominations for the 77th Emmy Awards with this year’s drama series category in particular set to be a highly competitive one.
Rather than one show dominating everything, a handful of key series have taken the lion’s share of nominations.
“Severance” leads the pack with 27 followed by “The Penguin” with 24, “The Studio” and “The White Lotus” with 23 each, “The Last of Us” with 16, “Andor” and “Hacks” with 14 each, and “Adolescence, “The Bear” and “The Pitt” with 13 each.
Also faring well were “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Mendez Story,” “Black Mirror,” “Dying for Sex,” “Only Murders in the Building, “Shrinking,” and “The Daily Show”.
Of note is the acting race, with certain shows dominating whole categories – most notably guest actor in a comedy with all but one nomination going to “The Studio” guest stars. “The Studio” also broke the “Ted Lasso” record for the most nominated freshman comedy ever.
“Severance,” “The White Lotus” and “The Last of Us” all picked up multiple nominations in acting categories, but at the cost of some others – most notably “Andor” which was shut out of acting noms bar a guest spot for Forest Whitaker, and both “Slow Horses” and “The Diplomat” which only got nominations for their leading stars.
