Aussie actress Teresa Palmer (“A Discovery of Witches,” “Hacksaw Ridge”) has been cast in the much-anticipated “God of War” TV series at Amazon Prime Video.

Based on PlayStation’s ancient mythology-themed video game, she will join Ryan Hurst in the lead role of Kratos. Here she plays Phoebe/Sif, wife of Thor and the goddess of family.

Other previously rumored cast members include Max Parker (‘Boots”) as Baldur, and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor.

In the series, Kratos is Spartan by birth, and a god by nature. Raised in a martial culture, he rose to command armies in the service of his homeland until one day he made a fateful deal with Ares, the Greek God of War and lost his soul in exchange for being victorious in battle.

The series will be set many years later and follow the storyline of the Norse-themed 2018 reboot game (and its sequel ‘Ragnarok’). In the series, father and son Kratos and Atreus embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye – ultimately butting heads with Odin.

Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his ten-year-old son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human. Ronald D. Moore serves as showrunner with Frederick E.O. Toye directing the first two episodes.

Pre-production is currently underway with a two-season order having been handed out.
