It took over thirty years, but a sequel to “Top Gun” finally arrived in cinemas this year and promptly opened to rave reviews from critics and audiences along with being the top grossing new release of the year to date and closing in on $1.2 billion worldwide.
By every measure, the film has been a resounding success, so much so it begs the question – could we get another one? Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, “Top Gun: Maverick” co-star Miles Teller has teased that he’s already talked to Tom Cruise about the possibility of another one and ultimately it depends on Cruise:
“That would be great, but that’s all up to [Cruise]. It’s all up to Tom. I’ve been having some conversations with him about it. We’ll see. For him to share ‘Top Gun’ with me and a lot of these other young actors it’s just been such a wild ride, and it’s still going.”
There’s little doubt Paramount would be very interested in continuing but Cruise is a little busy and is currently in production on “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 2” along with having to promote that film and its first part over the next two years.
“Top Gun: Maverick” is in theaters now.
