Fathom Entertainment’s 35th anniversary re-release of 1990’s “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” movie played on around 1,300 screens this past week and landed a quite commendable $3.3 million for the run.
Exhibitors have asked for an extension and have been granted it; the re-release is now set to continue for a second full week in select cinemas until August 28th.
Fathom, Saga Arts and Warner Bros. Pictures must be very happy with the result, it’s currently the highest-grossing 2025 classic/repertory film for Fathom.
Now they’re hoping to continue the success as it seems that ideas are already in the works for a 35th anniversary re-release of 1991’s “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze” in March 2026.
‘Ooze’ opened to $20 million back in 1991, ending its domestic run with $78.6 million. The film received mixed reviews from critics, who appreciated the original’s darker tone.
The film reveals the origins of Splinter and the Turtles and introduces two new villains, Tokka and Rahzar. The Turtles mostly fight bare-fisted in this one to get around issues with censorship which the first film faced over its use of weapons.
