Ted Melfi will pen the script and potentially direct a film adaptation of the J.R. Moehringer memoir “The Tender Bar” at Sony Pictures and Chernin Entertainment.
The companies are nearing a rights deal for the 2005 work which deals with how the youth grew up without a father.
He was, however, surrounded by unlikely surrogates: the patrons who haunted a pub in Manhasset, Long Island where his uncle tended bar.
Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping will produce.
