Many have been awaiting the third season of “Ted Lasso,” including the executives at Apple TV+ and Warner Bros. Television it seems.
Puck News reports that the third season has taken “about a year” to make twelve episodes, and there’s reportedly no end in sight.
Sudeikis, Brendan Hunt and Joe Kelly opened a writer’s room last September, and the cast arrived in London in early January. But Sudeikis personally decided the scripts needed a significant rewrite.
However that re-writing took “a while”, which meant the first episode didn’t begin filming until March and then things have been messy with “stops and starts, script changes on the fly, days not made, character arcs shifted”.
An April location shoot in Amsterdam added weeks to the schedule, and the final episodes are upping the production stakes. Combine that with some lengthy post-production, and it’s going to take time.
In addition, the third season budget has apparently ballooned 20-30% (and may go higher), with Warners Television and Apple expected to sort out the costs.
As the report indicates, what was supposed to “air” this summer isn’t even close to finished and won’t wrap until nearer to year’s end (ie. November) ahead of a winter/spring airing – likely before the Emmys deadline at the end of May.
