Following yesterday’s brief tease, Lucasfilm has released the first trailer for “Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord,” the new animated series centering around “Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace” antagonist Darth Maul.
“Chains can be broken. Empires can be shattered” is the tagline for the new series. It has also been announced today that Oscar nominee Wagner Moura will lend his voice to the series.
Sam Witwer, who voiced the character in that series and in “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” will return to the role here with events taking place after Palpatine became Emperor and Maul is on the run.
Maul strikes against the criminal underworld as he rebuilds his power, confronting the Inquisitor First Brother, and taking on a new Twi’lek apprentice whom he believes will help him in his quest for vengeance after he received a Force vision.
The show is expected to go more into his backstory with Witwer previously saying: “We learn some different things about this character. He’s got some different traits that you wouldn’t necessarily think he has that make perfect sense from what he’s been through.”
The series, which was announced at Star Wars Celebration last year, will premiere on the Disney+ service on April 6th with a double episode. Two episodes will continue airing weekly through May 4th.
