Amazon Prime has released the teaser trailer and poster for the six-episode psychological thriller limited series “Dead Ringers,” a reimagining of David Cronenberg’s famed 1988 medical horror film of the same name.

Jeremy Irons starred in the original as twin gynaecologists who perform ethically questionable procedures on infertile women and begin a relationship with the same woman (Genevieve Bujold). Rachel Weisz stars in and executive produces the new take which gender swaps the lead characters.

Here, she takes on the dual roles of Elliot and Beverly Mantle who share everything: drugs, lovers, and an unapologetic desire to do whatever it takes – including pushing the boundaries on medical ethics – in order to challenge antiquated practices and bring women’s healthcare to the forefront.

Britne Oldford, Poppy Liu, Michael Chernus, Jennifer Ehle and Emily Meade co-star in the series with Alice Birch (“Normal People,” “Succession”) acting as showrunner whilst Sean Durkin, Karyn Kusama, Karena Evans and Lauren Wolkstein direct episodes.

Weisz reportedly came up with the idea for the series and brought it to Annapurna Television which backed the project along with Amazon and Morgan Creek. Stacy O’Neil, Megan Ellison, Sue Naegle, Ali Krug, James G. Robinson, David Robinson, and Barbara Wall also executive produce.

All six episodes will be released at once on Prime Video on April 21st and available for streaming in over 240 countries and territories.
