Netflix has premiered the teaser trailer for the psychological thriller film “Leave The World Behind” which is directed by “Mr. Robot” and “Homecoming” creator Sam Esmail.
Based on a 2020 novel by Rumaan Alam, the story begins when a family vacation on Long Island is interrupted by two strangers – a father and daughter – with news of a blackout and seeking refuge
As the threat grows more imminent, both families must decide how best to survive the potential crisis – all while grappling with their own place in this collapsing world.
Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali, Ethan Hawke, Kevin Bacon, Myha’la Herrold, Farrah Mackenzie and Charlie Evans co-star in the film which Barack and Michelle Obama’s production company Higher Ground is backing.
Esmail also adapted the script for the film and recently spoke with Vanity Fair about it saying: “What I think Rumaan did so well in the novel, and what I tried to capture in the film is to invert that and make the focus be on the characters, and their reaction. The spectacle of the disaster is secondary and off in the distance.”
“Leave the World Behind” will premiere at AFI Fest on October 25th ahead of a theatrical release on November 22nd and a streaming release on December 8th.
