HBO has premiered a teaser trailer for its upcoming Watergate series “White House Plumbers” starring Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux.
The series will tell the true story of how Nixon’s political saboteurs and Watergate masterminds E. Howard Hunt (Harrelson) and G. Gordon Liddy (Theroux) planned the Watergate burglary. In the process, they accidentally toppled the presidency they were zealously trying to protect.
The title refers to a covert team of former FBI and CIA operatives established after the publication of the Pentagon Papers in 1971 and tasked with stopping leaks of classified information or anything that would paint President Nixon in an unfavourable light.
The five-episode series hails from “Veep” showrunner David Mandel, and is based partly on public records along with the book “Integrity” by Egil and Matthew Krogh.
Lena Headey, Judy Greer, Domhnall Gleeson, Toby Huss, Ike Barinholtz, Kathleen Turner, Kim Coates, Yul Vazquez, Kiernan Shipka, F. Murray Abraham, and John Carroll Lynch star.
“White House Plumbers” will make its debut sometime in March.
