Row K Entertainment premiered the teaser trailer for “Good Will Hunting” and “Milk” director Gus Van Sant’s crime drama “Dead Man’s Wire”.
Based on a true story, the film deals with the 1977 kidnapping of a prominent banker that grips the nation and turns the abductor into an outlaw folk hero.
As the media frenzy peaks, the standoff becomes a spectacle of desperation, defiance, and blurred justice, which resonates even today.
Austin Kolodney penned the film inspired heavily by the 2018 documentary “Dead Man’s Line” in which Tony Kiritsis tied a gun to his mortgage broker Richard Hall’s head in a way that the gun would go off if he tried to escape or Kiritsis was shot.
He held the man hostage for 63 hours. Bill Skarsgård plays Kiritsis and Dacre Montgomery is Hall and Colman Domingo is local radio host Fred Temple who gets pulled into the event. Other stars include Cary Elwes, Myha’la, Jordan Claire Robbins, Daniel R. Hill and Al Pacino.
The film has scored strong reviews on the festival circuit with a 72/100 on Metacritic and a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.
“Dead Man’s Wire” will arrive in select theaters on January 9th followed by a wide release on January 16th.
