Netflix has unveiled the teaser trailer for “Game of Thrones” writer-producers David Benioff and Dan Weiss’ new series – the sci-fi epic “3 Body Problem” at Netflix.
The project is based on Chinese author Liu Cixin’s sci-fi trilogy which tells the story of what happens when humanity discovers that we are not alone in the universe and prepares for an alien force arriving from a distant and inhospitable world.
The original Hugo Award-winning novel trilogy runs from the 1960s on Earth until the end of time in the distant fringes of the universe. Cixin and Ken Liu, who wrote the English-language translation of the first and third novels, will be consulting producers on the project.
The show’s expansive cast includes Jovan Adepo, Eiza Gonzalez, Benedict Wong, Jonathan Pryce, Rosalind Chao, Ben Schnetzer, Marlo Kelly, Jess Hong, Alex Sharp, Sea Shimooka, Saamer Usmani, Zine Tseng and newcomer Eve Ridley.
Benioff and Weiss serve as showrunners alongside co-creator, writer and executive producer Alexander Woo (“True Blood,” “The Terror: Infamy”).
Rian Johnson and Rosamund Pike are among the many executive producers, as is Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment. Oscar-nominated director Derek Tsang (“Better Days”) will direct multiple episodes.
“3 Body Problem” will launch on Netflix in January 2024.
