Taylor Swift Breaks “Spider-Man” Record

AMC Theaters

The film was only announced yesterday morning, and in the space of just 24 hours, it looks as though Taylor Swift might just save cinemas from a bleak Fall.

“Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” concert film has earned a massive $26 million in pre-sale tickets at AMC Theatres – the biggest single-day ticket sale record for AMC to date.

That number slaps down a previous record held by “Spider-Man: No Way Home” which earned $16.9 million in its first 24 hours – a number that the Swift film reportedly passed in less than three hours, according to AMC.

What’s really notable is the presales figure is for AMC only, not any other chain which means the actual number of tickets sold is much higher. Though AMC itself is the film’s official distributor, no studio middlemen, the film is also playing at rival circuits like Regal and Cinemark along with indie cinema locations.

This was reflected by ticketing service Fandango who report that “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” has broken its record for biggest first-day ticket sales for 2023 – with pre-sales ranking up there with first days for the likes of “Avengers: Endgame,” “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home”

Exhibitors reportedly privately believe an opening weekend of $100 million+ is possible – unprecedented business for a concert film. AMC is reportedly already adding additional showtimes to increase capacity where it’s “necessary and available.”

“Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” opens in cinemas on October 13th.
