“The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” “You,” and “Uncharted” actress Tati Gabrielle is in final negotiations to join the cast of the sequel to 2021’s “Mortal Kombat” at New Line.
The sequel continues the story of a group of ragtag fighters, versed in the ways of martial arts, who defend our reality against the forces of Outworld in a fighting tournament.
Gabrielle will play Jade, who fist appeared in the second game “Mortal Kombat II” – she is an assassin who is a friend and bodyguard to the character Princess Kitana. Kitana didn’t appear in the first film.
Karl Urban is already set to play fan-favorite character Johnny Cage, an action movie star who enters the tournament to prove himself. Some of the first film’s cast is also set to return including Jessica McNamee as Sonya, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Mehcad Brooks as Jax and Lewis Tan as Cole Young.
Simon McQuoid, who directed the previous movie, returns for the second instalment with Jeremy Slater writing the screenplay. McQuoid, Todd Garner, James Wan, Michael Clear and E. Bennett Walsh produce.
The 2021 film released during the pandemic in both theaters and on HBO Max remains one of the streamer’s biggest hits.
