Ahead of the release of the second season of “Primal” on July 21st, master animator Genndy Tartakovsky (“Samurai Jack,” “Star Wars: The Clone Wars”) has confirmed his film “Fixed” has entered production at Sony Pictures Animation.

Speaking to EW, he describes the film as what sounds like Spike Lee’s “25th Hour” but involves a dog about to be desexed. He says it’s a “2D R-rated animated movie about a dog who finds out he’s gonna get neutered in the morning, and what does he do with his next 24 hours?”.

Speaking about the film’s tone he adds: “[it’s] gonna look really good, and it’s got heart, but then it’s got the super raunch. I’ve never really seen anything like it.”

Before that arrives we get the new run of “Primal” which will follow a different narrative structure than the first season with a shift from a more episodic series to one big story across ten episodes.

The show will keep exploring Spear’s and Fang’s unique bond and aims to be “even more emotionally complex” than before: “It’s still pulpy, but at its core the character story between Fang and Spear – it goes bonkers.”

Tartakovsky recently presented the first episode of his steampunk fantasy series “Unicorn: Warriors Eternal” at the Annecy festival, a project he had been developing on and off for two decades.

The first episode of the new run of “Primal” arrives on Adult Swim on July 21st and will be available to stream on HBO Max the next day. “Unicorn: Warriors Eternal” and “Fixed” have yet to set dates.
