Warner Bros. Pictures originally bought “Primal” and “Samurai Jack” creator Genndy Tartakovsky’s “Fixed” back in 2023, and then promptly shelved the completed R-rated animated comedy.

Sony later shopped around the project, which was picked up and then released on Netflix earlier this year. Now, Tartakovsky is trying to get his next feature made and has turned to the Internet for help.

The famed animator posted footage on Instagram of “The Black Knight,” a long-gestating adult-oriented animated project of his that began development six years ago.

Tartakovsky says sharing this footage “might get me in trouble,” but is hoping the reaction could breathe new life into the film’s development process by rallying fans (ala “Deadpool”).

Reportedly, the studio behind it was never convinced a wide theatrical audience was out there for the film. Nonetheless, a rough test clip was produced and was passed on. That test is what he posted this week.

Set in the 14th century, the project follows the titular 20-foot-tall knight armour operated from within by an intricate system of ropes.
