A24 will re-team with twin brothers Danny and Michael Philippou for the sequel to this year’s acclaimed Australian indie horror film “Talk to Me”.
Titled “Talk 2 Me,” the follow-up will be written by Danny Philippou and Bill Hinzman and will again be directed by the twins who are also collectively known as RackaRacka thanks to their YouTube channel of action-comedy videos.
Sophia Wilde starred in the first film as teenager Mia who, on the anniversary of her mother’s death, gathers for a seance with her friends involving an apparent ‘cursed’ disembodied hand.
Things turn dark as the boundaries between worlds collapses and Mia is haunted by supernatural visions. Miranda Otto, Alexandra Jensen, Joe Bird, Otis Dhanji and Zoe Terakes also starred.
The film premiered at Sundance to rave reviews where it was quickly picked up by A24. Along with scoring stellar critical scores, the film opened recently to $10 million – an opening three-day haul that easily eclipsed the film’s tiny budget.
The brothers have also filmed some form of ScreenLife-format Duckett prequel that they hope to release eventually, but it’s not certain if that work will get a theatrical run.
“Talk to Me” is playing in theaters now.
