Take-Two CEO On Disappointing Stadia

It was dubbed a PC & console killer. However, several months after launch, Google Stadia and game streaming in general has proven something of a wet blanket with little uptake.

This week, major publisher Take-Two Interactive (“Grand Theft Auto,” “NBA2K”) has indicated they are far from pleased with Stadia as CEO Strauss Zelnick publicly voiced his disappointment with the platform at the Bernstein Annual Strategic Decisions Conference according to GameSpot.

Zelnick reportedly noted that Stadia suffered from a ‘slow’ start and failed to make good on what he calls “some overpromising on what the technology could deliver.” He suggests Google apparently believed they could bank on customers keen on gaming and would pay for it but just didn’t want to have a console. That didn’t happen and Zelnick suggests they have no immediate plans for Stadia as it wasn’t the “game-changer” it was made out to be.

The game streaming service got off to a rocky start with a disastrous Reddit AMA session a few days before launch, plenty of technical issues and missing features, and at least one game costing more on the service than as opposed to buying it outright on disc or another platform.
