Oscar winner Taika Waititi has set his next project to direct as he is in negotiations to helm “Klara and the Sun” for Sony’s 3000 Pictures.

The project is an adaptation of “The Remains of the Day” author Kazuo Ishiguro’s New York Times best-selling 2021 novel. The story follows Klara, a robot girl created to prevent teenagers from becoming lonely. In the story, she tries to save a family of humans she lives with from heartbreak.

Dahvi Waller penned the original draft of the screenplay for the project, which is in development. David Heyman is producing with Garrett Basch, and Waititi is also in negotiations to produce.

Following his helming of “Thor Love And Thunder for Marvel Studios, Waititi was said to be weighing several options for his next film – one of them being his proposed “Star Wars” movie at Lucasfilm.

He ultimately chose ‘Klara’ and once the deal closes, it’s likely to be his next film. He is still reportedly committed to directing his “Star Wars” project next year.

Waititi also helmed the soccer comedy “Next Goal Wins” which hits this Fall.
