“Euphoria” actress Sydney Sweeney has a major role in the Marvel Comics-inspired “Madame Web” movie at Sony Pictures, but plot specifics of that part have been under wraps.
Now on a new episode of The Hot Mic, insider Jeff Sneider has revealed that Sweeney will be playing Spider-Woman in the film but he’s not sure which version of the character she stars as.
Previous rumors have suggested the second Spider-Woman, Julia Carpenter, is the most likely candidate. The film also stars Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, Tahar Rahim, Emma Roberts, Mike Epps, Adam Scott and Zosia Mamet all in undisclosed roles.
“Madame Web” serves as an origin story for Madame Web, a clairvoyant character whose psychic abilities allow her to see within the spider world itself. Further story details are under wraps.
The film is a part of the Sony Marvel universe, previously known by the wonderful anagram of S.P.U.M.C., alongside the likes of “Venom,” “Morbius” and the upcoming “Kraven the Hunter”. A third “Venom” film is also in the works with Kelly Marcel to direct.
S.J. Clarkson directs “Madame Web” while Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless penned the screenplay. Filming took place across the back half of last year with Sony set to release the film on February 16th next year.
