Swinton, Blanchett, Waltz Join “Pinocchio”

Tilda Swinton, Cate Blanchett, Christoph Waltz, Finn Wolfhard, John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson and Burn Gorman have all joined Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming stop-motion animated musical feature “Pinocchio” for Netflix.

The group is in addition to the already cast newcomer Gregory Mann in the title role, Ewan McGregor as Jiminy Cricket and David Bradley as Geppetto.

Drawing on the classic Carlo Collodi tale, the story follows the extraordinary journey of a wooden boy magically brought to life by a father’s wish and struggles to live up to his expectations. This incarnation is also set during the rise of fascism in Mussolini’s Italy.

Del Toro and Mark Gustafson (“Fantastic Mr. Fox”) direct from a script penned by Del Toro and Patrick McHale (“Adventure Time”). Filming began last Fall and production has continued uninterrupted during the pandemic.
