Sydney Sweeney will star in and Justin Lin (“Fast Five”) will direct a remake of the 1964 French-Italian film “The Man From Rio”.
Considered one of the better spoofs of the early Bond films, it follows a young French private on military leave who comes to the rescue of his girlfriend, who has been abducted by thieves and brought to Rio de Janeiro.
Jean-Paul Belmondo and Françoise Dorléac lead the film, which landed an Oscar nomination for its script.
The film also went on to inspire other romantic action-adventure films like Robert Zemeckis’ “Romancing the Stone” and Steven Spielberg’s Indiana Jones franchise.
Chase Palmer (“IT”) wrote the new iteration with Sweeney and Lin attached as producers, as well as Kevin Walsh.
Sweeney will shortly be seen in the boxing biopic drama “Christy” opening in cinemas on November 7th.
