Edi Gathegi, who sort of stole the show as Mr. Terrific in James Gunn’s “Superman,” has landed a key role in Joseph Kosinski’s “Miami Vice ’85” film at Universal Pictures.
According to THR, Gathegi will play a small-time crook with big-time ambitions who is in over his head and has a big impact on the film’s story.
Michael B. Jordan plays Ricardo Tubbs, and Austin Butler is James ‘Sonny’ Crockett in the movie that will explore the glamour and corruption of mid-1980s Miami as it follows two detectives who work undercover.
The project is said to be inspired by the pilot episode and first season of the landmark television series, which Michael Mann produced and was hugely influential on the TV and cultural landscape.
Gathegi joins a cast that also includes Alden Ehrenreich, Whitney Peak, Camila Morrone, Danny Ramirez, John Leguizamo and Andrew Schulz.
“Top Gun: Maverick” and “F1” helmer Joseph Kosinski is directing the project that aims to begin production in November and will shoot in New York and Miami. The project is being shot for IMAX and will open in cinemas May 19th 2028.
