“Superman: Legacy” Begins Pre-Production

Timed with Superman Anniversary day, filmmaker and DC Studios chief James Gunn has officially announced that early pre-production is underway on his “Superman: Legacy” film.

Saying “I’m honored to be a part of the legacy” in a tweet, he adds “costumes, production design, and more now up and running” on the DC Comics adaptation.

The film marks the first film effort in Gunn and DC Studios co-chief Peter Safran’s new initiative mapping out the course of the DC film and TV universe over the next decade.

The story will follow a younger Superman in his early days and at a point with Clark Kent early in his career – which is why Henry Cavill isn’t returning to the role. Gunn has been working on the script for some time, well before the new DC slate was announced in late January.

Gunn has repeatedly squashed casting rumours surrounding the role, indicating a casting director hadn’t been hired as yet. That’s likely about to change.

“Superman: Legacy” is the only film from the slate to have a set release date and is scheduled to hit cinemas on July 11th 2025. It will follow the animated “Creature Commandos” series and will come before new “Batman,” “Booster Gold” and “Swamp Thing” adaptations.
