Playwright and actress Ana Nogueira has officially been announced as the writer for the new “Wonder Woman” film in the works at DC Studios with Gunn confirming the news on social media.
Nogueira also wrote the upcoming “Supergirl” movie which is currently in post-production, as well as the live-action “Teen Titans” film in development.
The project was first revealed back in June, the title to be separate from the previously announced HBO series “Paradise Island” which would essentially serve as a prequel about the character’s homeland of Themyscira. That project is still alive but progressing at a crawl.
The new “Wonder Woman” on the other hand is moving fast, Gunn saying the other day that the new film will have a quite different take on the character to any other prior screen incarnation. So far, he seems very happy with how that script is progressing.
Both Lynda Carter and Gal Gadot have played the character on the small and big screen respectively, while Adrianne Palicki had a go for a TV pilot that wasn’t picked up.
The news also comes as Gunn spoke about the “Supergirl” film on the weekend, telling Rolling Stone the character is “rougher in the film than she is in the comic” and the overall film is “way more rock & roll film… [and a] little bit edgier in some ways” than “Superman”.
