Universal Pictures, Illumination and Nintendo have shaken up their plans for the release of “The Super Mario Bros Movie,” pushing the film a few days across many international territories.
In late November, Universal set the film to open a week earlier than in the U.S. in multiple international markets including Belgium, France, the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Brazil among others.
Now though, local release schedules in those countries have been updated to indicate the film has been pushed back a week to bring it more in line with the unchanged U.S. release date of April 7th.
With the Easter weekend holiday falling on that date, the release of the film is now being timed to take advantage of that globally with the opening spread over the Wednesday through Friday period (April 5th-7th) in almost all global territories including the U.S., U.K., Australia and more.
Even China is getting in on the action with the film set to hit the Middle Kingdom on April 5th in time for Ching Ming Festival. Exceptions getting the film at a later date include Japan on April 28th and South Korea on May 3rd.
Nintendo announced last week that a Nintendo Direct presentation themed around film will take place on March 9th with the movie’s final trailer set to be released at that time.
The voice cast for the film includes Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.
