Joonas Suotamo is set to fully take over the role of Wookie companion Chewbacca in the upcoming Han Solo spin-off film which began production this week.
Suotamo will take over from Peter Mayhew who has played the role since the 1977 original. Suotamo and Mayhew effectively shared the role for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” and here the quite young Suotamo takes on the role alone. The actor just tweeted a message to Star Wars fans about his role, you can read that below:

The untitled Han Solo Star Wars Story film will look at the early years of the rogue pilot before the events of ‘A New Hope’. Phil Lord and Chris Miller helm the project which opens in cinemas May 25th 2018.
