The Riley Stearns directed sci-fi film “Dual” has sold its U.S. rights to RLJE Films. The Karen Gillan, Aaron Paul and Beulah Koale-led film played in the U.S. Dramatic competition out of Sundance and will now get a theatrical run later in 2022.
Gillan plays a woman who receives a terminal diagnosis and chooses to pursue a cloning procedure to ease her loss. But when she makes a miraculous recovery, she attempts to have her clone decommissioned which leads to her clone suing for a court-mandated duel to the death.
That’s not the only acquisition out of Sundance today. Apple has scored the worldwide rights to Cooper Raiff’s Sundance feature “Cha Cha Real Smooth” in a deal said to be worth around $15 million – the biggest of the festival this year so far.
The story follows an aimless college graduate who gets a job as a party starter and befriends a young mother (Dakota Johnson) and her autistic daughter (Vanessa Burghardt). Leslie Mann, Evan Assante, Brad Garett, Raúl Castillo, and Odeya Rush also star.
