It looks like the Sundance Film Festival will go ahead in January, with the Sundance Institute scoring approval from the City Council of Park City, Utah on a number of items.
As a result of the new guidelines under which they’ll operate, the festival will now run seven days rather than eleven – specifically from January 28th to February 3rd 2021. The festival will also be using just one municipal location, the Park City Library, and expects just 25% capacity at each screening.
These guidelines are now formally in place in case the coronavirus pandemic is still causing major social distancing measures in January. Sundance is hoping to avoid the fate that befell the Telluride Film Festival this year which was forced to cancel.
The Sundance Institute had already warned Park City and the industry back in June that it expected the 2021 edition of the festival to be partially online and in cinemas outside of Utah because of the pandemic.
