“Suicide Squad” Game Won’t Be Overhauled

Rocksteady Studios

Last week came the report via Forbes that Rocksteady Studios had pushed its long in the works “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” game from this May to sometime in the second half of 2023.

That was followed by Giant Bomb reporter Jeff Grubb citing a source saying the game may not actually arrive until 2024. Warner has yet to comment on any of those reports.

The delay news came in the wake of a 15-minute showcase of the title during February’s PlayStation live stream – a showcase that revealed the title to be a ‘looter shooter’ with live service elements including a battle pass and an always-online requirement even if playing solo.

The original Bloomberg report’s author Jason Schreier had added some follow-up information in a tweet, indicating there are no plans to ditch the live service-style elements for now – the delay is merely to polish the game as is rather than do a major overhaul:

“Rocksteady has not yet announced the Suicide Squad delay, perhaps because there’s still no new date. Staff were told a few weeks ago it’s coming later this year but they still don’t know when. Possible it slips to 2024, but one thing seems certain: the core game isn’t changing.”

Gamers en masse have turned against the flood of live service games in the wake of so many being abruptly cancelled or shut down recently.

With the delay, the title also distances itself from “Gotham Knights,” the high-profile DC game released to mediocre reviews this past Fall with numerous performance issues and bugs.
