Rocksteady Studios’ “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” has been delayed yet again, this time pushed back from its planned May release to a launch almost a year away – February 2nd 2024.
The decision is not a surprise. The game was battered by a flood of negative responses to a 15-minute gameplay showcase of the online co-op action shooter in February. That reveal showed it to be more of a live service title than expected with an always-online requirement – even in single-player mode.
Dubbed a genre-bending action-adventure shooter set in an open-world Metropolis, the title sees Brainiac having taken over the world and Amanda Waller has recruited the Suicide Squad to help her save it from corrupted superheroes.
The narrative reportedly takes place in the same world as Rocksteady’s ‘Arkham’ games and marks the final performance of Kevin Conroy as the voice of Batman.
In a statement on Twitter, Rocksteady says: “We have made the tough but necessary decision to take the time needed to work on getting the game to be the best quality experience for players.”
They add: “Thank you to our amazing community for the continued support, patience and understanding. There is much more to share in the months ahead and we look forward to seeing you in Metropolis next year.”
The delay also comes in the wake of a bad reception to “Gotham Knights” released last year and a wave of disastrous PC port launches and buggy major releases (across various platforms).
“Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” will be exclusive to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on February 2nd next year.
