DC Comics mainstays Harley Quinn and the Joker are leaving Gotham City for a more exotic locale in the just-announced anime series “Suicide Squad: ISEKAI”.
The project is a teaming of Warner Bros. Japan and Japanese animation house WIT Studio, who is best known for their work animating the early seasons of “Attack on Titan”.
Isekai, which translates to ‘different world,’ is a popular genre in Japan and sees characters finding themselves transported to a different reality (not unlike Western works such as “The Chronicles of Narnia” or “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz”).
Dubbed an epic and violent fantasy, the trailer sees Harley and The Joker causing their usual mayhem in Gotham City before ending up in a sunny fantasy land of dragons and knights.
The Suicide Squad’s Amanda Waller can be seen in the trailer, suggesting some of the team may show up. Eri Osada directs whilst Tappei Nagatsuki and Eiji Umehara write.
