Sturridge Eyed To Lead “Sandman” Series

British actor Tom Sturridge (“Pirate Radio,” “Being Julia,” “Velvet Buzzsaw”) is reportedly being eyed to star as Morpheus (aka Dream), the lead role in the upcoming Netflix series adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s celebrated “Sandman” comics reports Collider.

The original comic ran for 75 issues from 1989-1996 and began with the accidental capture of Dream, the younger brother of Death, and the journey that begins when he is released seven decades later. Like “Watchmen,” the series is often held up as one of the greatest comics ever written.

The new series updates it for the modern age. Gaiman, David S. Goyer (“Batman Begins”) and Allan Heinberg (“Wonder Woman”) lead the team of the series which is said to begin production in a few weeks. Gaiman has said that he and his co-writers are already working on stories for a second season.

The series follows on from a more direct audio adaptation for Audible recently which had James McAvoy starring as Morpheus.
