Strong, Anouka Join “Dune” Prequel Series

Mark Strong, Jade Anouka, and Chris Mason have joined the cast of HBO Max’s “Dune: The Sisterhood” prequel series which is currently in production.

Set 10,000 years before the events of “Dune,” the story follows the Harkonnen Sisters (Emily Watson, Shirley Henderson) as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect known as the Bene Gesserit.

Strong (“Zero Dark Thirty,” “Kingsman”) will star as Emperor Javicco Corrino, a man from a great line of war-time Emperors called upon to govern the Imperium and manage a fragile peace.

Anouka (“His Dark Materials”) will play Sister Theodosia, a talented and ambitious acolyte at the Sisterhood with a dangerous secret about her past.

Mason (“Broadchurch”) will play Keiran Atreides, a Swordmaster to a Great House who forms an unexpected connection to a member of the royal family.

Other previously announced cast members include Travis Fimmel, Indira Varma, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Faoileann Cunningham, Aoife Hinds, and Chloe Lea.

The series is based on the novel “Sisterhood of Dune” by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. Diane Ademu-John created the show and serves as an executive producer, while Alison Schapker serves as showrunner.

Johan Renck will direct the premiere episode and executive produce. Denis Villeneuve, Jon Spaihts, Scott Z. Burns, Matthew King, John Cameron, Cait Collins, Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert all executive produce.
